Going Green
With energy reduction and waste recycling firmly in the news recently you might like to know what Trend has been doing towards reducing the impact that our business has on the environment. We all know about greenhouse gases caused by carbon emissions but did you know that by simply changing our lighting to high-efficiency fluorescent tubes we can reduce our energy consumption by up to 45%?
We are progressively replacing our existing lighting and have some way to go yet but what we have done so far has already reduced our electricity usage by over 140,000 kWh per year - which helps to combat the increase we’ve seen in our energy bills! This equates to over 60 tonnes less CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere by power stations making electricity just to keep Trend bright!!
Remember that this is something you can do at home as well by using low energy light bulbs – save money and the planet at the same time!! In terms of waste recycling Trend was playing its part long before it became a newsworthy subject. Year-on-year we have reduced the amount of scrap and waste we generate even though our business volumes have significantly increased. As well as reducing the amount of waste we have also made good efforts to recycle as much as we can.
Although we are doing well we can always do better and will continue to look into ways and means to reduce our waste and increase our recycling for both financial and environmental reasons.
Remember – energy reduction and waste recycling are not just company issues. The way that we collectively address these issues at work and at home affects everybody. We need to recognise that we all have a role, however small, in making the environment cleaner and greener!!
