Team Trend give back to local Community in LCI acts of Service community day.

May 17, 2019

Friday 26th April  saw Team Trend take part in our acts of service Community Day.

Despite the forecast predicting a wash out, we enjoyed a gloriously sunny afternoon. Our group of volunteers included some new faces from all areas of the business and provided us with the chance to get together with the aim of giving something back to our local community, the surrounding area and the village of Catfield where our headquarters are located.

After engaging with the local Parish Council, we were able to organise a number of activities to keep everyone busy including litter picking around the village, repairing and reinstalling fencing and gates to the local village green and clearing an alleyway so that the local community could walk it safely again.

The senior team would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part on the day. One of the many highlights was when a village resident came out and gave Glenn a box of chocolates because she said we were “heroes” for everything we’d done. At the end of the day, everyone agreed it had been very rewarding and great to make a difference. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet and mingle with our colleagues from different areas of the business too as teams were made up from different departments and factories from across the site.

We look forward to our next community project which is planned for later this year.

Acts of Service Initiative- Creating a Garden Space with Catfield Primary School.

May 24, 2018

We are delighted to announce that we’ve recently partnered with local school Catfield Primary as part of our ‘Acts of Service Initiative’. The aim of the Initiative is to do good in the local community, and so we approached Catfield Primary to see if we could work with them as a local business.

They were hugely accommodating, and it was agreed that a team from Trend would work on an unused space within the school grounds to create a small communal garden for both students and staff to enjoy.

Business Systems Manager – Paul Rumsby came up with the design for the space and hopefully we will be able to come close to recreating it over the coming weeks, allocating a small amount of time to the project . We’re very pleased to be working within the local community and would like to thank those involved so far for their hard work. We look forward to updating you as the project progresses.

London On- Water 2018.

May 11, 2018

This week we visited the first day of the London On-Water Boat Show at St Katherine Docks Marina, City of London. Although a relatively small show compared with some of the end of season European Boat Shows, it was a great example of how the yachting industry is going from strength to strength at the moment, with everyone enjoying a dose of midweek sunshine in heart of the City of London. Exhibiting at the show are some of the worlds finest yacht builders as well as offerings from the Small Boat, Charter and Travel side of the industry. Consequently there was a wealth of Trend Marine product to see, with the likes of Galeon and Fairline showing a range of new and brokerage craft.

The show runs until Saturday 12th May

Trend Marine Expands

April 25, 2018

Trend Marine are to expand and take on a new unit in Plymouth after experiencing double digit growth over the last 12 months.

The unit is part of a new development, Oceansgate, that is being developed as a marine enterprise zone on ex-Ministry of Defence land.

Other confirmed marine businesses include Surejust and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

“The new unit offers Trend a service and storage facility in the heart of the South West plus an engineering and technical base,” explained Trend Marine director of sales and service Jim Bolton. “This will allow us to offer a more localised and focused support to our key customers in Plymouth and the surrounding area and further support our ongoing growth and expansion.”

Healthy order books

He added: “Our order books are healthy and we continue to invest in people, place and process in order to future proof the business.”

Both Trend Marine and Surejust are suppliers to Princess Yachts and the new location will enable them to work closer with the yacht builder.

“We’re very pleased to be one of the first tenants in this prestigious and important investment in the area.It will enable us to continue to develop our business with Princess and offer an improved supply,” said Bradley Higgs, Trend Marine MD.

The development is being promoted by Plymouth City Council and the Local Enterprise Partnership. The new buildings – phase one of the project – were officially opened recently by leader of Plymouth City Council, Ian Bowyer.

Construction of phase two is due to start next year.

Big is Beautiful

April 25, 2018

Our Sales and Service Director- Jim Boulton, explains current market trends and the need to move with the market.

“Gone are the days of modern motor cruisers with small windows and white glass reinforced plastic – it’s common to find 20m yachts featuring continuous runs of glass between 6m and 8m in length,”

“This inevitably results in greater pressures to produce that perfect seamless piece of glass as a surface imperfection or small ripple will be rejected.”

Jim admits the demand for larger sheet formats will cause problems for bespoke manufacturers who are geared up to work with half-jumbo sheet sizes, and are therefore limited to 3.2m  by 2.4m widths.

“Those who cannot handle larger pieces going into a full jumbo sheet – up to 6m – will lose business. Players in this area must future-proof their businesses and upgrade their production processes.”

Investment

Trend Marine are currently investing in refurbishing our glass manufacturing and toughening plants, enabling us to process larger format panes with increased length and width, plus substantial investment in high-speed grinding machinery and interlayer technology to allow production of ever more complex glass.

Jim confirms ‘smart performance glass’ integrated with the boat’s technology is the next ‘must have’ item.

He explains: “Customers want glass with programmable technology such as rain sensors, heat and light reducing interlayers, open and closing sensors in portholes, hatches and doors with entry control mechanisms and it’s increasingly common for specs to include doors with automatic open and closing sensors and coded entry systems.”

In January, Trend became part of Lippert LCI – a major player in America’s recreational vehicle market.“Lippert has many global subsidiaries so this gives us huge potential to utilise its technology and enhance our existing product lines” concludes Jim.

Demand increases for larger sheets of glass
